Full Stop
"Full Stop (句號)" marks a pivotal departure from my comfort zone, transitioning from English to Chinese lyricism to explore deep personal emotions. This track, crafted as a ballad with melancholic piano accompaniments, eloquently captures the intense journey of trying to forget someone, channeling fervent efforts to move past lingering feelings until a resolution is reached to cease the struggle and bring an emotional saga to a definitive end. Originally designed as a school project, "Full Stop" transcended its academic origins to debut on major streaming platforms. The accompanying cover art, which I designed using ProCreate, reflects the themes of time’s passage and the ephemeral nature of moments, visually complementing the song’s message of finality and closure.
Creating "Full Stop (句號)" was a deep dive into the intersection of musical and emotional exploration. Undertaking the challenge of composing lyrics in Chinese, I ventured into new expressive territory that required a nuanced understanding of the language's poetic capabilities. This linguistic shift was driven by the need to authentically convey the raw emotions and depth of the narrative, which centered on the theme of definitive emotional closure.
The decision to shape the song as a ballad with a melancholic piano base was strategic, aimed at intensifying the song’s emotive pull. This musical arrangement was carefully selected to complement the lyrics' poignant content, providing a sonorous backdrop that enhances the overall melancholic atmosphere. Each note and chord was deliberately chosen to resonate with the song’s narrative, creating a cohesive auditory experience that invites listeners to deeply engage with the track's emotional landscape.
The production process involved meticulous planning and execution. Using GarageBand, I navigated through various technical aspects of recording, mixing, and mastering, ensuring that the simplicity of the tool did not hinder the depth and quality of the final output. The creative autonomy I held throughout this project allowed me to experiment with different sound textures and mixing techniques, ultimately crafting a sound that was both polished and profoundly expressive.

Simultaneously, the visual elements, specifically the hand-drawn cover art, were developed to visually echo the song's lyrical themes. Drawing the artwork myself using ProCreate, I focused on creating imagery that would evoke a sense of time fading and opportunities slipping away, mirroring the song’s narrative of letting go. This visual representation was not merely supplementary but a fundamental part of the storytelling, designed to visually communicate the track's emotional and thematic layers.
By weaving together advanced lyrical content, thoughtful musical arrangements, and complementary visual arts, the creation of "Full Stop" was a holistic artistic endeavor. This project not only tested my creative boundaries but also enhanced my capabilities as an artist, providing a comprehensive platform to showcase my creativity and technical skills while delivering a powerful emotional and auditory experience.
